8 Self-Care Tips for Massage Therapists

Regular stretching can prevent soft tissues from becoming taut. In addition to the typical daily stresses we all experience, massage therapists who work with clients having acute health challenges, such as cancer patients, are particular vulnerable to stress. Any self-respecting massage therapist knows the benefits of getting regular massages. But doing so isn't always possible. When that's the case, there are a myriad of self-massage tools and practices to help maintain our bodies in good working order. An article in the Massage Therapy Journal recommends various exercises with a small ball "to playfully counteract some of the repetitive movements associated with performing massage therapy" (14). Other tools, such as the AcuForce Massage Star, can also help you bridge the gap until you can get a massage. Nutrition and hydration are also important in maintaining your body in peak performance condition, so don't forget to eat right and drink plenty of water. Your clients are depending on you.

She worked in a traditional office space for a while, but decided it was not worth the overhead costs that cut into her profits; so, she changed her business model. "I ended up in a fabulous situation with corporate accounts, there's no overhead," she said. With one of her clients, a large accounting firm, she has a massage room at each of the company's offices. The employees there pay half her rate, while the company pays the other half. "It teaches you how to sit in your chair, how to move in your chair," she said. First, research your competition, Silber said. … that type of thing. What do they charge? " This information will help you set a rate that's competitive, but not too low, as well as keep you from charging a rate that's higher than all of your competitors' prices. Then, set a reasonable price and see what h appens. Silber said she has been charging $100 per hour for the past 16 years. Due to competition and economic factors, she noted, sometimes that price was higher than average, and sometimes not. In an on-site massage practice, one disadvantage is that many times, you end up alone with a client you've never met. For that reason, Silber prefers referrals from current clients.

Plus, it only takes ten seconds. Repeat throughout the day if possible. Drinking water. Water is the saving grace when it comes to reducing eye puffiness. Be sure you drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day, and don't substitute sodas, coffees, or sugary drinks. When the body is dehydrated, it acts much like a camel, storing water for the long haul across the desert. Instead of a camel's hump, you'll develop water reserves around the eyeballs. By keeping yourself adequately hydrated, the body isn't put into survival mode and won't puff up in all the wrong places. Salt. Jumbo fries, peppero ni pizza, and other salt-intense foods can cause puffy eyes. However, salt by itself does the eyes good. Get rid of the puffy eyes by mixing 1/2 teaspoon salt into 1 quart warm water. Dip cotton balls or facial pads into the solution, then lie down and apply pads to the eyelids. Rest in this position for at least ten minutes while keeping the pads in place.

Matte lipstick is not as forgiving as the glossier kind, so you'll want to put in some extra effort to get it right. Once you've got it there, though, you're golden, because a good matte lipstick will stay in place for hours -- a godsend, since it's tough to look sophisticated with smudgy lips. Nuru Massage In fact, replacing fixtures without relocating them is one of the most popular, cost-effective ways to redo a bath. For a diminutive powder room or an elegant, lightly scaled look in any bath, pedestal and wall-hung sinks are just the ticket. Enameled cast iron (not ste el, which chips easily), vitreous china, stainless steel, solid surfacing, and even colorful art glass (specially tempered, of course) are all used for freestanding sinks. Versatile styles range from nostalgically traditional to space-age modern; at the very high end, pedestal sinks are made of semiprecious stones, such as agate or rose quartz, or with opulent hand-painted basins featuring lavish illustrations. A bonus: Pedestal and wall-hung sinks are easily accessible to wheelchair users, and the wall-hung models can be set at just the right height. Sinks may be skirted to provide for hidden storage; glass or wood shelves can be installed above for open storage. If you need the countertop and extra storage space a vanity can provide, a sink, usually of vitreous china, can be dropped in.
